Dr. med. student position (hired as Studentische Hilfskraft) on quantitative MRI of metabolic health and dysfunction
The Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) invites applications for one doctoral medical thesis (Dr. med.) candidate focusing on quantitative MRI in clinical studies of metabolic health and dysfunction. The main aim is the application of quantitative Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) techniques in liver, abdominal fat, skeletal muscle and bone marrow for (a) metabolic phenotyping of patients with obesity and diabetes, (b) analyzing the effects of longitudinal lifestyle interventions in obese patients and (c) characterizing the presence and function of brown adipose tissue in healthy volunteers. The projects take place in close collaboration with TUM’s Department of Clinical Nutrition.
The student will be part of the Body Magnetic Resonance Research Group in the Radiology Department (http://www.bmrrgroup.de/) and will be closely working with radiologists, MR scientists and nutrition scientists. The student will undertake patient recruitment, MR scanning, MR data evaluation and journal manuscript preparation. The student is expected to spend 10 hours a week for a period of 2-3 years and will be hired as a “Studentische Hilfskraft” (HiWi).
Applicants should have completed their basic studies (Grundstudium), should be interested in working with patients, have excellent computer skills (good knowledge of Microsoft Excel), an interest in learning about imaging techniques and a good command of English (English is the working language in the research group).
