TUM Global Health Talk hosted by the CGH

We are happy to announce this month’s session of the TUM Global Health Talk speaker series on May 28th, 2024, where our guest speaker Prof. Dr. med. Erika von Mutius will present her work on “Protective environments for childhood asthma and allergies”.
Prof. Erika von Mutius is a distinguished pediatrician scientist, professor of pediatric allergology and the head of the department “Environmental Health” at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and Director of the Institute of Asthma and Allergy Prevention at Helmholtz Munich. Her research focuses on the origins of asthma and allergy development and her landmark farm studies revealed pivotal mechanisms in this field.
In her talk, she will address the mounting evidence that certain environmental exposures confer protection from childhood asthma and allergies such as those with a high diversity of the environmental microbiome. This environmental microbiome also impacts the human microbiome of the gut which in turn mediates the ‘farm effect’ phenomenon.
Join us for this month’s session, online or in person (see below), to delve deeper into this fascinating topic!
