Applying for an Internship / Clinical Rotation at TUM School of Medicine through the Erasmus+ Student Mobility for Placements / Traineeships Program (Erasmus+ SMP Program, 8 weeks and more)

Internships / Clinical Rotations in one of our clinical departments / wards of the TUM University Hopsital rechts der Isar can be completed within the ERASMUS+ SMP Program (Student Mobility of Placements), provided that:
 
1.  your internship / rotation is scheduled for at least 2 months,
2.  the respective clinical department / ward has sufficient capacities to accept you for an internship / clinical rotation,
3.  you have a good command of the German language (a proof of German language proficiency at CEFR Level B1 is mandatory!).
 
First of all, students must contact the respective clinical departments / wards of the TUM University Hospital rechts der Isar to inquire, whether traineeship spots are availabe during their preferred time period. Please refer to the contact details of our teaching coordinators

Once, students have received the written consent of the clinical department / ward, they must send the following documents (if possible, as one PDF document), via E-Mail to our Student Office: international.med.sto@mh.tum.de
  1. Letter / e-mail of Acceptance of the respective clinical department / ward
  2. Exact Time Period / Dates of your planned Placement / Clinical Rotation
  3. Letter of Motivation
  4. CV / Résumé with photo
  5. Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships (for each clinical rotation): Students must fill in the Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships of their Home University, sign it and get it signed and stamped by the Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinators of their Home University. For each clinical rotation, students have to fill in a separate Erasmus+ Learning Agreement for Traineeships, which needs to be signed also by a representative of the clinical department / ward, where the students will complete their internship at. Once you have collected the signatures of the responsible representative(s) of each clinical department / ward on all your Erasmus+ Training Agreements, you may request, in addition, the signature of our TUM Departmental Erasmus+ Coordinators. However, ONLY IF IT IS ABSOLUTELY REQUIRED BY YOUR HOME UNIVERSITY. Usually, the signature of the responsible representative of the clinical department / ward on the Erasmus+ Training Agreement is sufficient!
  6. Proof of Medical Malpractice Insurance (= Professional Liability / Indemnity Insurance) for the period of the internship / clinical rotation, which protects students against claims regarding financial compensation relating to their work as a doctor/intern. Please note: a civil liability insurance or accident insurance is not sufficient!! If the home university doesn't offer such kind of insurance for its students, they can purchase it also here in Germany. There are several insurance companies, which offer this kind of insurance, for example:
  7. Proof of general Health Insurance
  8. Certificate of Medical Examination, which must not be older than one year (at the time of the beginning of the internship). For further information please refer to the document “Certificate of Medical Examination“, that students can download below. Students need to send us the completed form, signed by their general practicioner.
  9. Current Certificate of Enrollment of the Home University

Internship students have the possibilty to enroll at TUM as Practical Project Students for one to three semesters (though it is not mandatory).
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE APPLICATION DEADLINES (4 times a year)!

Applying for an internship at TUM Faculty of Medicine

Internships in one of our departments within the ERASMUS program are possible, provided that:   1.                  your internship is scheduled for at least 2 months,   2.                  the department accepts you,   3.                  you have a good command of the German language, since classes and seminars at TUM’s medical school are exclusively held in German;  moreover you cannot expect patients or the nursing staff to speak English.
